Our plastic scintillators are produced in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Cast sheets are the most commonly used forms.
You also can obtain precision thin sheets, thin-film, rods, annuli, and large rectangular blocks.
We supply most solid scintillators with their surfaces prepared to optimize light collection. For cast sheets, the cast surfaces are untouched, and the edges are machined and polished or diamond milled.
You can also obtain finished plastic scintillator detector assemblies. These incorporate light guides, photomultiplier tubes, special radiation entrance windows, light-tight wrappings, and electronics.
Integrally mounted or demountable detectors can be designed to meet your specifications.
Finish for 2 parallel large surfaces:
“BEST” As cast surface finish is optically clear and quite flat. Sheet material is cast to thickness required for the order between glass sheets, so a glass-like polished surface is the result.
Diamond Milled cast faces (for 2 parallel large surface) Finish is flatter than as-cast, optically clear (but not as good as as-cast). Small tool marks may be visible under magnification.
Finish for edges:
“BEST” Diamond Milled edges - Surface finish is optically clear and quite flat.
Rough or Saw-cut (for edges) - The finish is rough and NOT optically clear. The customer will need to do further processing.
Finished detector options:
- wrapped in reflector and light tight black vinyl, as per Saint-Gobain standard tolerances
- light guides coupled to scintillator
- photomultiplier tubes - Integrally mounted or demountable PMT can be designed to meet your specifications
